Olympics Update: Friday, August 2

TWO MEDALS OVERNIGHT! BMX Racing & Swimming medal race this morning!

These events are happening this morning:

• 6:20am - BMX Racing - Paris 10

  • Leila Walker - Quarterfinal (Run 1-3)

• 8am - Swimming - Paris 3

  • Caitlin Deans & Erika Fairweather & Eve Thomas & Laticia Transom - 4x200m Freestyle Relay (FINAL)

Here’s what happened since yesterday’s email:

• Rowing - Lucy Spoors & Brooke Francis - Double Sculls (Final)

  • After bobbing between 3rd and 4th for most of the race, Brooke & Lucy came back in an incredible run to snatch GOLD with a time 6:50.45!

• Rowing - Davina Waddy & Jackie Gowler & Kerri Williams & Phoebe Spoors - Four (Final)

  • A BRONZE medal for rowers Davina & Jackie & Kerri & Phoebe, who finished an incredibly close race with a time of 6:29.08!

• Swimming - Caitlin Deans & Erika Fairweather & Eve Thomas & Laticia Transom - 4x200m Freestyle Relay (Heats)

  • Caitlin & Erika & Eve & Laticia finished 8th in the heats with a time of 7:54.37. They’ll race for a medal at 8am today!

• Football - Football Ferns - vs. France

  • Football Ferns lost to France 2-1, despite an incredible goal from Kate Taylor in the 42nd minute. This ends their Olympic journey.

• Rowing - Emma Twigg - Single Sculls (Semifinal)

  • Emma placed 1st in her semifinal with a time of 7:17:19. She’ll race for a medal on Saturday night.

• Judo - Moira de Villiers - Round of 32 (-78kg)

  • Moira was in a very even match-up that went full regulation time of 4:00 minutes. Both competitors had two shidos (slight infringements) moving into sudden-death Golden Score overtime. Moira was issued her third shido (hansoku-make) at 1:12 into overtime, which immediately ended the match. Lost 0-10. This ends her Olympic journey.

• Sailing - Veerle ten Have - Windsurfing (Race 12-14)

  • Veerle is currently in 9th after race 14, advancing her to the medal series (scheduled for early Saturday morning)! In last night’s races, she finished in 2nd (race 12), 16th (race 13), and 13 (race 14).

• Sailing - Greta Pilkington - Dinghy (Race 1-2)

  • Greta finished 21st in race 1, then race 2 was postponed due to weather conditions. She’ll race again tonight.

• Sailing - Jo Aleh & Molly Meech - Skiff (Medal Race)

  • The medal race was postponed due to weather conditions. They’ll race for a medal tonight!
