Paralympics Update: Thursday, September 5

SILVER in T36 200m Sprint & BRONZE in shot put overnight!

Here’s what happened since yesterday’s email:

• Para Athletics - Dani Aitchison - T36 100m Sprint

  • Dani ran a 13.74, the fastest time in qualification, advancing her to the finals. In the final race, she ran a 13.43, winning silver (an upgrade from her bronze in this event in Tokyo 2021)! This ends her Paralympic journey - Dani goes home with 2 silver medals in the T36 100m Sprint and T36 200m Sprint!

• Para Athletics - Holly Robinson - F46 Shot Put

  • Holly won BRONZE in the shot put, with a throw of 11.88m! This is Holly’s 3rd Paralympic medal, but first in the shot put. Her first 2 Paralympics medals were in the javelin in 2016 and 2021, which she’ll compete in on Saturday morning!

• Para Cycling Road: Nicole Murray - C5 Individual Time Trial; Anna Taylor - C4 Individual Time Trial

  • Nicole finished 4th, with a time of 21:46.26, narrowly missing out on a podium spot. She will compete again on Friday in the C4-5 Road Race.

  • Anna finished 7th, with a time of 23:48.67. This ends Anna’s Paralympic journey - she goes home with a silver medal in the C4 3000m Individual Pursuit, and a new NZ record!

• Para Equestrian - Louise Duncan - Individual Event - Grade IV - PGP Test

  • Louise (and horse Showcase!) scored 64.945, finishing in 13th place, but just short of the score required to advance to the Individual Freestyle Event. This ends her Paralympic journey

  • Lili-Fox Mason, Gabriella Smith - 400m Freestyle S10 (Heats)

    *3:50am - Final

• 9:15pm - Para Swimming

  • Tupou Neiufi - 50m Freestyle S8 (Heats)

    *5:56am - Final
